Shredding corn stalks.

I also had some visitors that came out of the corn

while my father-in-law was combining.

They had a grand ol' time running around in the that field.
Just thought I would share some more pictures from the field. The picture above shows the difference between the stalks.

The ones on the left are not shredded,

the ones on right are.


Dan got a "new toy" on the farm. It's a stalk shredder. When corn is being combined, it's cut off a few inches from the ground. Because of the type of corn planted the stalks don't "break down" very well during the winter.

This machine cuts just above the dirt using very sharp knives. This rips the stalks apart enough that come spring time, it's not so hard to get the field ready.
